Today In Sports History (January 11, 1987): Elway and The Drive

On this Day in Sports History, January 11th, (1/11/1987):
Rumor has it the Cleveland Browns were not always a complete and unmitigated disaster/laughingstock. If that is true, perhaps this is the game where that all changed. The 1987 AFC Championship game featured the Denver Broncos, led by 4th year QB John Elway, and the Cleveland Browns, with Bernie Kosar behind center.  Late in the 4th quarter, after muffing the kickoff, forcing Denver to start from their own 2 yard line, Elway led the Broncos on the famous, 3-minute, 15-play, 98-yard Drive, culminating with a TD reception by Mark Jackson, to pull even with Cleveland at 20-20. Denver won in OT on a 33-yard Rich Karlis field goal, sending Elway to Pasadena and his first Super Bowl, ultimately losing to the New York Giants. Cleveland… well, it’d be fair to say they have yet to recover.
